LAKEVIEW

Here are the beautiful words of artist, William Conger as reported to and reported by A. Artner at the Chicago Tribune on January 30, 2009:

CHICAGO

This is where I've had my experience. This is my lived experience. I can't pretend I haven't had it and it hasn't affected me deeply, so my experience in this city and the urban landscape is part of the metaphor I deal with. I still live in the neighborhood where I grew up, by sheer coincidence, the East Lakeview neighborhood. I walk the same streets. Broadway is one of the craziest streets in Chicago. As a kid I walked it every day going back and forth to school. I still walk it. It's still crazy. The incredible separation between that liveliness and the serenity of the lake is the kind of contradiction I keep going back to.

NILES

At the intersection of Oakton Street and Milwaukee Avenue sits Oak Mill Mall.  Located at the southwest corner, it is higher than any other buildings there.

The strip has a Jewel-Osco.  Shoppers walk in and out of the grocery store, many of them without ever setting foot in the hidden gem a few steps away.

In the L-shaped mall proper, two-story glass windows draw natural light into an atrium space.  Retail outlets and professional offices on the first and second floors open onto the atrium and staircases and balconies.  Beautiful plants and fountains of running water surround an elevator at the center of the mall.  It even features a small aviary maintained by tenants.
