THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS – MYTH OR WHAT?
Sue Moss

Happy 2009!

Let's get right down to business, shall we?  How many of you still have your New Year's Resolution intact?  To those of you who do, Congratulations!  To those of us who don't, let's get our weekend started!

If your resolution was to give-up beer but you slipped because you forgot you were giving it up - old habits die hard as they say --

Beer School Beer Festival will take place this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sheffield's in the Lakeview neighborhood.  Reservations are recommended for this $40 per person event.  Admission includes 12 drink tickets, good for one beer each, from more than 15 breweries.  Click here for more details as well as making your reservation.

How about gearing up for St. Patrick's Day -- you know, it's never too early to start -- at St. Practice Day?  This monthly bash is held at Mahoney's Pub & Grille in the West Town neighborhood at 551 N. Ogden Avenue.  There is no cover, and The Chancy Brothers, a Celtic rock band, will be performing this Saturday.  Click here for more details and beverage prices.

As always, enjoy yourself, but please do so responsibly!

If your resolution was to spend more time with your family but you somehow forgot you had one, may I suggest one of the following:

Chicago Blues Tour Winter 2009.  Take your significant other out this Saturday to Alcock's in the Loop.  From 8:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., board a bus from Alcock's to nine other South Side lounges.  Cost is $40 per person, but a small price to pay for breaking that resolution!  Click here for more information.

B-Movie Madness.  Thrill your entire family, this Saturday only, with a seven-hour showcase of B-movies and horror comedies at the Portage Theater on Milwaukee Avenue in the Portage Park neighborhood.  I can't think of a better way to spend time with your family and have fun at the same time!  Click here for show time and prices.

Crab Festival, mentioned in last weekend's article, is running daily through January 31st.  Don't miss out on this annual dining event which serves up a three-course family-style crab dinner for $39.99 at Shaw's Crab House in the River North neighborhood.  You're family will never know that you forgot about them!  For more information click here.

79th Annual Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoors Show, which kicked-off on Thursday, January 15th, and runs through this Sunday at McCormick Place.  Another "family" event here billed as the Midwest's largest show of its kind!  Click here for times and prices.

And finally, for those who have Monday off from work, Maeve's (1325 W. Wrightwood Avenue) will be hosting a MLK Birthday Party on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Click here for more details as well as price for this event.

Hopefully, some of these weekend entertainment suggestions will make-up for our lack of commitment to our New Year's Resolutions!  Remember, "there's always next year!!"
