GOLD COAST
There has been much talk around town
about Michelle
Obama's inaugural gown, but what
about her hairdo?
To be sure that her hair is as meticulously styled as a first lady
should expect, her longtime Chicago hairdresser, Rahni Flowers of Van
Cleef Hair Studio on the Gold
Coast, is flying in with his
equipment to do the job.
Flowers, has been styling Michelle's hair for 18 years. He will
arrive in Washington on Sunday to fashion the new first lady's hair
and do her makeup for her various public appearances, which include
the swearing-in ceremony, parade and inaugural balls.

LOOP
Winter 2008/09 has been the coldest
on record in 8 years. It is expected to be brutally cold the remainder
of the workweek. Temperatures will drop below zero Wednesday night
and may remain there through Friday morning, producing what may be a
58 consecutive-hour stretch of subzero temperatures over many parts
of the Chicagoland area. Only in the Loop and near Lake Michigan may
the mercury struggle to zero (or just above) for a brief period Thursday,
athough that is not a guarantee.

SOUTH LOOP
In Chicago's South Loop, there was a time when Monday night was inconceivable
without a Noge show at HotHouse. That club is no longer in existence,
however recently vocalist Noge has made Monday nights at Andy's Jazz
Club on Hubbard her own. She joyfully blends Japanese folkloric
traditions with the techniques of Chicago jazz and blues for your entertainment
pleasure.

NORWOOD PARK
At the Norridge Citadel of the Salvation
Army, Wednesday mornings are a time when volunteers, like Irene Lottchea
gather to sort bread donations from Panera Bread and Dominick's, into
family size packages.
Five years ago, Lottchea lost her son
to cancer and her home to financial difficulties. She came to the Salvation
Army seeking food. There, she met former family assistance ministry
director Jane Berry.
"The next thing I knew, Jane asked
me if I wanted to help pack bread on Wednesdays," Lottchea said.
"I was delighted to serve the Lord in this way. Not only did I
find help for my problems, but I knew there was a God looking over me."
Irene has been assisting for five years.
Three years ago, she was awarded a dedicated volunteer certificate.

NAPERVILLE
This winter season has been brutal.
Snow storms, cold weather with gusty winds, and temperatures dropping
below zero. With the inclement weather upon us, Naperville is
reminding residents of the existence of area warming centers and to
look out for others.
"Check on neighbors, family and
friends," said Lt. Dave Szablewski, emergency preparedness coordinator
for the city of Naperville. "People that may have special needs
or disability and make sure they're OK."
Monday through Friday, during regular
business hours, residents can seek shelter at the Naperville Municipal
Center, 400 S. Eagle St. Other warming centers are available at the
following locations: county administrative buildings, libraries, Park
District facilities, senior centers, shopping malls, township offices
and other public places.
For relief from inclement conditions
after hours and on weekends, residents are strongly advised to go to
any of the city's nine fire stations.
