THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - CHRISTMAS SHOPPING OR SEASONAL ACTIVITIES?
I hope you
enjoyed your Thanksgiving and didn't overstuff your turkey or yourself for that
matter! And now starts the official
Christmas shopping season. Do you hate
shopping as much as I do? If so, come
join in on some of Chicago's
seasonal activities and just do your Christmas shopping at 4:00PM on Christmas
Eve like my husband does.
Be sure to
partake in an annual tradition in the Chicago Loop, Macy's Holiday Windows located at 111 N. State. This year the display offers a peek at the
creation and decoration of Macy's huge Christmas tree located in the Walnut
Room. While you're at it, stop in - no,
not to shop - but have a little snack in the Walnut Room. Click here if you're interested in more
details.
If you find
yourself on Michigan Avenue, and feeling a little chilled, why not warm up with
a few rounds at the McCormick Tribune
Ice Rink at Millennium Park located at 55 N. Michigan. Skate rental is $10. Click here for rink hours.
How about
heading over to Lincoln Park Zoo (2200 N. Cannon) for their annual ZooLights tradition? As you walk around the zoo grounds you will
be dazzled by more than two million holiday lights, ice carving demonstrations,
kids' activities and much more. Click here
for dates and times.
Perhaps you
would rather be somewhere a little warmer.
Head on over to the Garfield Park Conservatory located at 300 N. Central Park for their Holiday Traditions winter floral display. This will be the conservatory's final show
for their centennial year. Click here
for dates and times.
Still want
to stay warm, head over to the Chicago
Botanic Garden located at
1000 Lake Cook Road
in Glencoe for their Wonderland
Express. Tiny trains wind
through more than 60 miniature Chicago
landmarks, past holiday trees and more in this exhibit. Click here for more information.
Also, as I
mentioned in my last blog, the Museum
of Science and Industry
will be hosting their annual ‘Christmas
Around the World' and ‘Holidays of Light'. This year's theme is "Celebrating 75 Years of Museum
Memories". Click here for more details.
However, if
you're feeling adventuresome, and want to expand beyond Chicago's city limits, head on over to the
Morton Arboretum located at 4100
Illinois Route 53 in Lisle. Holiday
Trees and Holiday Railroad
are free with museum admission of $4-$9.
The Evergreen Express
will cost an additional $20-$25 however since this is a heated trolley ride
providing hot chocolate and cookies with seasonal stories and songs. Sure beats shopping any day! Click here for further information.
Finally, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular
is another seasonal option. You will
find the Radio City Rockettes performing at the Rosemont Theatre located at 5400 N. River Road
in Rosemont. Click here for ticket
information, dates and times.
There is so
much to see and do at Christmas-time in Chicago,
and it's surrounding neighborhoods and suburbs, who has time to shop? Do you?
HAPPY BLACK FRIDAY to all you
shoppers!
