JEFF'S SPORTS BLOG - ARE THE HAPLESS RAMS THE CURE FOR OUR CHICAGO BEARS’ WOES?
Our Chicago Bears go into tomorrow's game with a .500 record
- 5 wins and 5 losses. So far, the
record is good enough to keep them in first place in their division sharing the
spot with both the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.
Unfortunately, the Bears have lost two games
in a row coming into tomorrow's action and have lost three of their last five
games. Meanwhile, the Vikings and
Packers have lost only two of their last five games.
In any case, the Bears need a win tomorrow
against the St. Louis Rams who have proven to be a weak opponent for most teams
this year winning only twice in ten tries.
The Bears defense has played poorly of late and has become
the talk of the sports radio world here in Chicago.
The once proud and dominating defense has become mediocre at best with
key players not living up to expectations.
The Bears starting defense features seven players who have gone to a
Probowl in the past and with the exception of linebacker Lance Briggs there
won't be any other players worthy of going to next year's Probowl.
In particular, the defense has been vulnerable to the
passing attacks of opposing offenses yielding 249 yards a game, which ranks
them 30th in the league out of 32 NFL teams.
Luckily, the Bears face a weak St. Louis offense that
has averaged only 271 yards of total offense which ranks 29th in the
entire league.
To top that off, the Rams
will be without two key players on offense, starting left tackle, Orlando Pace
and star running back, Steven Jackson, will not play against the Bears. These factors combined with a must-win game
for the Bears favors the chances of our Monsters of the Midway.
The Bears should be able to put up some points on offense
despite QB, Kyle Orton not being 100% healthy.
The Rams are not strong on defense ranking last in the league in points
allowed and have allowed an average of a whopping 390 total yards and within
that the Rams defense has allowed an average of 159 yards rushing.
This gives the Bears strong possibilities for
exploiting these weaknesses and should prove to be an advantage for Orton and
the offense. Look for the Bears to
feature running back, Matt Forte in both running the ball as well as catching
the ball out of the backfield. I think
he'll have a big game.
The Bears sorely need this win to stay atop the
division and win a game on the schedule that they should win! GO BEARS!!!!
