THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - CHICAGO’S TOP ATTRACTIONS!
The other
day it occurred to me that I haven't blogged about some of Chicago's top attractions, and it wasn't
intentional either. It's just that I
live here in Chicago
and really don't frequent these places as visitors to our great City would, and
therefore, they don't readily come to mind.
These
particular attractions I'm hinting at are Chicago's
museums, which rank among the best in the world and are always in season.
Some of my
favorites, which by the way I last visited when I was a kid, and I'm talking many
years here, are -
Adler Planetarium located at 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive. The Adler is presenting its "Cosmic
Collisions" space show at 10:45 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
daily. This is a trip through space and
time you sure don't want to miss.
Afterwards, you can visit one of the two star-gazing theaters as well as
many hands-on exhibits and much more. Click here
for more information.
The Field Museum of Natural History located at 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive. Visit Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters
and learn about tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes and more. Or visit The Aztec World and learn about the
rise and fall of the Aztec civilization, which includes artifacts, weapons and
art. If you're really adventuresome, why
not partake in the "Dozin' With the Dinos" sleepover on Friday, November 28th,
5:45 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the following day.
If you do, don't forget to say hello to my namesake "Sue." For more programs and any extra
fees in addition to the general admission, click here.
Museum of Science and Industry located at 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive. This museum by far is my favorite and most
memorable. There is so much to see and
do at this museum I could just do a whole blog on it, but I won't. Go check it out for yourself. However, a few exhibits of interest might be:
(1) the museum's annual "Christmas Around the World" and "Holidays of Light" which will run from
November 14th to January 4th. In honor of the museum's 75th
anniversary, the theme of this exhibit is "Celebrating
75 Years of Museum Memories"; (2) the museum will recreate the 1893 "World's Columbian Exposition" for a
virtual tour from December 5th to December 7th at 2:00
p.m.; (3) a new permanent exhibit called "Fast
Forward . . . Inventing the Future"; or (4) the museum's Omnimax theater
will feature "Grand Canyon Adventure:
River at Risk" through February 12th. Click here for more information and other
programs.
Obviously,
there are many more museums in Chicago not discussed here, such as The Shedd Aquarium, The Art Institute, the
Chicago Children's Museum, etc., that I encourage you to check them out as
well. After all, winter will be upon us
before you know it and I can't think of a better way to spend those cold &
dreary weekends than in one of our museums.
It sure beats boredom any day!
I realize
that admission to these attractions can be a little costly in these troubling
economic times, so check out some of these discounts --
If you
visit Chicago's
5 top attractions, you can save $56 with a Chicago City Pass, which is valid
for 9 days from day of first use. Click here
for a list of the attractions as well as how to obtain your Chicago City Pass.
There is
also the Go Chicago Card which is a one all-access pass with a one

Or, with a
Chicago Public Library card, you can obtain a museum pass to nearly every
museum in Chicago. This pass is good for one week and more than

Pass."
You have no
excuses now to get out with your family and/or friends for a day of fun,
relaxation and learning. Yes, this
includes me as well. So, which museum
will I find you in?
Your
challenge is to let me know which museum you'll find me in! Good Luck --
