Ralph Johnson of Perkins and Will and Ron Krueck of Krueck

list of seven teams bidding to design the National Eisenhower Memorial in
Washington, D.C.. Another candidate includes

Pavilion and BP Bridge in Millennium

million. A fundraising campaign will begin soon.

Gerald Arpino's credited for giving the Joffrey Ballet a
special look, and, against the odds, he led the troupe in its journey from
financial ruin to survival here in Chicago.
As a result, Arpino played a critical role in providing this city with a long
hard to pin down treasure: its own internationally renowned ballet company.
Arpino, 85, died Wednesday in his Loop Chicago home after a long battle with
prostate cancer. He was one of the last
remaining giants of the mid-20th Century movement that revolutionized dance.
"He was larger than life, fascinated by everything and everyone,"
Ashley Wheater, who replaced Arpino as Joffrey artistic director last
year. "When you think of the people
he collaborated with-once he heard two guys playing music on the street in San
Francisco, and that became the music for 'Light Rain,' " one of Arpino's
most popular works." CLICK HERE to

Xenia Powell was one of over 100 people who went out to
the basement of a South Loop community center this week with the idea of voting
early and avoid long lines on Election Day.
"Wow," Powell said when she joined the line which made its way from
inside the large basement voting room and down two hallways in the King
Community Center. The history teacher at a South Side charter school waited 45
minutes before voting.
"It's never taken me this long to vote before, even when I voted on
Election Day, but it's fine," she said. "I want to show my students I
early-voted. So I'm here for the long haul."

stopping at the Belmont, Addison, Irving Park and Montrose

Because the Belmont and Montrose stations don't have elevators. Southbound customers needing elevator access
should board a shuttle bus at the Jefferson
Park
station, which will travel to the Logan Square station.

A Tribune reader writes, your recipe for smoky
tomato and seafood soup ("Dining at Home," Oct. 22) sounded wonderful
and I am going to try it as soon as I can get out and purchase the ingredients,
and adds, lately, I have become a big fan of Asian markets, especially the new
mega markets.
Super H-Mart at Waukegan Road (in Niles) has a phenomenal seafood department. You can even purchase squid and octopus.
