LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - Finally, a Taker for Broken-Hearted Chicago Cub Fan's Loyalty: The Boston Red Sox!

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Buddy Holly Moss Roots for the Boston Red Sox - August, 2007Hey, you dogs!  You know, I'm not what you would call a very political dog - this was the first year I have actually registered to vote!   What's all the hubbub about this candidate - BARK OBAMA?  I hear he really appeals to us four-pawed set looking for a change!

Oops . . . maybe I got the spelling a bit wrong!

But did you see both Senators Obama and McCain's very funny speeches before the Al Smith Dinner in New York City tonight.  I caught it on one of my favorite, liberal-leaning cable news channels earlier tonight.

It's amazing that two candidates that were at each others throats through three Presidential Debates can poke fun at themselves - and each other - at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.  Funny, very funny!

I also want to promise you that this will be the last post I put paw to paper on in 2008 about my beloved, but choking, Chicago Cubs - but I couldn't resist this one!

As you know all too well by now, the Cubs unexpectedly lost three heartbreaking games to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the National League Divisional Series earlier this month.   Now, it has officially been 100 Years since the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series, way back in 1908.

After the final loss, one true-blue Cub fan - Scot Moore, formerly of Wheaton IL, a Western Suburb of Chicago, and now of Minneapolis MN, announced he had had enough!

He was ready to auction his loyalty to the Chicago Cubs away, to the highest bidder, on E-Bay!

Beside being very embarrassed by the play of the Cubs in the post-season this year, Moore also wanted to raise money toward two theatre troupes he supports in the Twin Cities.

Believe it or not, bidding on Moore's loyalty ran up to $7,100 on the E-Bay Auction.   But the online company pulled the plug - saying his auction violated site policy to offer only tangible items via bid, and to properly qualify all charitable organizations receiving money from auction proceeds.

Who came to Scot's rescue?  Would you believe (in this dog's best Maxwell Smart impersonation) - The Boston Red Sox?

The Sox of Boston - not to be confused with the Chicago Pale Hose - were burdened by their own "Curse of the Bambino" before happily breaking that curse by winning the World Series in 2004 and 2007.  (It doesn't look like they'll be going to the Series again this year however - the Tampa Bay Rays are beating them late in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series as I am pounding out this post).

After the Red Sox Marketing People, and their Canine Interns, heard about Moore's plight, they immediately offered to trade his Cub Loyalty for that of the Boston American League Baseball Team - complete with autographed team ball, membership in the Red Sox Fan Club, a VIP Tour of the Red Sox Fenway Park, and a couple of tickets to a ballgame next year.

The team also gave him permission to place the now-tangible Red Sox items up for bid on E-Bay, so he could try once again to raise money for his theatre project.

Will Moore take the Red Sox up on their offer of a trade?  He has yet to decide - but the offer is interesting, isn't it?

If it were me . . . !  Naah - I'm True Blue!  Don't do it, Scot!

There's always Next Year!  Right?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
