Jeff Ardito - Dean's Team Listing Specialist! Here are we are Chicago baseball fans.  It's the last weekend in September and the Chicago Cubs have solidified their spot in the playoffs with home-field advantage throughout the National League Playoffs and the Chicago White Sox will have to find a way to win while the pesky Minnesota Twins lose.

It has been an exciting year for both of our Chicago teams with both doing better than expected.

Yes, the Cubs were picked by many baseball experts to get into the playoffs and for some even the World Series; yet, they have had to overcome a fair share of adversity to win a second consecutive division title.

The White Sox weren't picked by many to enter postseason yet they are just a half game from winning the division.  If the Twins and White Sox win out then the Sox will have to play Detroit on Monday for their make-up game and should the Sox win that then they'll be tied with Minnesota and there would have to be a one-game playoff on Tuesday.

Hopefully, the White Sox can get in without the extra two games, which could deplete their pitching for the beginning of the division playoffs.

The Cubs have set their starting rotation with Ryan Dempster starting game one at Wrigley Field.  The Cubs' opponent could be made clear today if the Brewers beat the Cubs as they would then secure the wildcard spot since they currently have a one game lead over the New York Mets.  Should this happen, the Cubs would then face the Los Angeles Dodgers since the Dodgers have clinched the National League West a couple of days ago.

Games 1 and 2 would be played in Chicago with Carlos Zambrano pitching game 2 for the Cubs.  The Philadelphia Phillies have clinched at least a tie for their division and they could outright clinch it today with a win.  So, the playoff picture has become a lot clearer for the Cubs as they try to keep their players healthy in these last two games.

The White Sox would like to win their last two and hope that the Twins lose one!  Should this scenario happen the Sox would win their division and then travel to Florida to play the Tampa Rays beginning on Thursday.

What's very obvious is that despite both of our Chicago teams playing great baseball this season, they're quest to win a World Series is still far away and takes quite a bit of luck and tenacity to make it through a very long season.  Go Cubs and Go White Sox!
