Jeff Ardito - Dean's Team Listing Specialist!Yesterday's Cub game wasn't what the Cubs and their fans were hoping for as Cubs' ace right-hander, Carlos Zambrano took the mound after his brilliant no-hitter in Milwaukee earlier in the week.  Unfortunately, Zambrano didn't have it and was pounded by the St. Louis Cardinals for eight earned runs in just an inning and two-thirds.

What some of the fans weren't aware of is that Zambrano had just come back from his homeland, Venezuela, to attend to his grandmother's funeral.  He arrived back in Chicago on Thursday night and probably shouldn't have pitched on Friday.  Cub fans were concerned that Zambrano might have had his tendonitis flare up in his right shoulder again.  This doesn't appear to be the case and only time will tell.

Having said that, the Cubs are in position today to clinch the division in front of the home crowd.  They have clinched a wild card spot but they have a terrific opportunity to win their division and lock-up home field advantage.  Starting pitcher, Ted Lilly takes the mound today to bring the Cubs to their first goal of winning the division and giving manager, Lou Piniella a week to set-up his starting rotation and rest the right players.  It's a good position to be in and hopefully the Cubs can take advantage.

Assuming the Cubs can clinch while still at home, fans can celebrate with a team that has shown terrific promise as the season has progressed.  Yes, in the minds of Cub fans everywhere, you wonder what the postseason will bring with tough competition around the corner.  As a diehard fan, I hope the Cubs can bring home a championship because they do have a balanced team capable of winning it all.
