LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - Chicago: Stress Capitol of the USA? Huh?

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Buddy and Gracie Share The Stairs - 09-18-2008Woof, everyone!   Our Team Photographer snapped this candid earlier this week of me, along with our new Pup Reporter, Gracie Moss, during a quiet moment, relaxing between posts.

Hope you're having a great week, and the incredible turmoil of the U.S. Financial Markets hasn't made your head spin.  You know, it's almost too much for we Lil' Dogs to take in!

But as I was reading Forbes Magazine, trying to put all the financial pieces together, I was stunned by an incredibly ridiculous article -

THE CITY OF CHICAGO IS THE MOST STRESSFUL CITY IN THE U.S.!

You've got to be kidding me!  Chicago is a beautiful city, with a fantastic lakefront, with many dog-friendly beaches.  Incredible dining, with many dog-friendly cafés.  And room-to-roam parks, with many, many dog-friendly zones.

But stressful, naah, we can handle it, you dogs!

The only thing stressful around here is the 24-hour-a-day traffic growl on our infamous Kennedy Expressway, running between O'Hare International Airport, and Downtown Chicago and The Loop.  Even that doesn't bother me all that much - I usually attempt to end-around traffic by driving downtown during the mid-day, and late at night, chasing down stories.  (I just bought a Lil' White Smart Car - gets over 50 MPG, and stands about 18" high, and two feet long.  You might have seen me hitting the road recently, sporting my new "Buddy Loves Chicago" door decals!)

In their September 15th issue, however, Forbes Writer Mauma Desmond points to our high 7.3% area unemployment rate (although the rate for us dogs is somewhat lower, just over 5%, unless you count retired Police German Shepherds and Racing Greyhounds), a high price for a gallon of regular gas, at over $4.00, it's high population density (2nd in the U.S.), and polluted air (estimated to be 7th worse in the country).

Other most stressed cities across the U.S., according to the survey - In order, New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, and San Francisco round out the Top 5 Most Stressed.  Rounding out the Top 10 - San Diego,  Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Providence RI, and Philadelphia.

Although Ms. Desmond's story is entertaining, it's validity is being challenged, by everyone from Laid Back Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, to Cool as a Cucumber Dean's Team Leader Dean Moss, as well as his Wife and My Human Mom, Sue.

Hey, you dogs - what say you?  Grrrr - I don't things are that bad here in Chicago.

Come to town and Gracie and I will show you all our Relatively-Stress-Free City has to offer!

Here's a link to the Forbes article on the Most Stressful U.S. Cities from this week's edition.
