JEFF'S SPORTS BLOG - BOTH CHICAGO BASEBALL TEAMS REMAIN IN FIRST PLACE

That's right baseball fans, the Chicago Cubs and Chicago
White Sox are in first place and we're only two days away from September. Although the Cubs have the more comfortable
lead, the Sox have shown they have the team to compete with the Minnesota
Twins.
Both teams will face a tough schedule in September. The White Sox are currently in Boston playing the Red
Sox and that is certainly no easy task.
The Cubs are currently playing host to the Philadelphia Phillies and
although they have managed to win the first two games of the series, it's easy
to see why the Phillies have been in contention all year.
Looking past these two current series, the White Sox have to
travel to Cleveland
to play the Indians who are playing really good baseball right now having won 9
of their last ten games. After this
series, the White Sox come home for a ten-game home stand but have to welcome
the Los Angeles Angels, arguably the best team in baseball for a three-game set
and then the Toronto BlueJays and Division Rival, Detroit Tigers. After this stretch, they travel to New York to play the Yankees and then to the Kansas City to play the
Royals. This is also a tough stretch but
should be manageable for the Sox as they then move to Minnesota for a key three game series with
the Twins that might determine the outcome of the American League Central
Division. The Sox will finish the
regular season at home with a three game set with the Cleveland Indians.
The Cubs will be on the road quite a bit in the month of
September and that is why it's nice that they currently have a 6.5 game lead
over the Milwaukee Brewers. They have a
tough schedule beginning with Houston
at home for a three-game stint and then the Cubs go on the road to play nine
games against the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros. The Cardinals will still be vying for the
wild-card so they'll be the toughest test as well as the Astros who always play
the Cubs tough. The Cubs then come home
to play the second place Milwaukee Brewers in what will prove to be an
important series and then finish that homestand with three against the
Cardinals. Without a day off in this end
of season stretch, the Cubs then have to finish the season on the road with four
games in New York against the first place Mets
and then three games in Milwaukee
against the Brewers.
It's tough to say who has the tougher September
schedule but it certainly will be exciting.
Chicago
fans have a thrilling ride ahead and it's just getting started.
