TECHNOLOGY TIPS - A NEW COOL (CUIL) SEARCH ENGINE COULD THIS BE GOOGLE'S COMPETITION?

Cathy Mallers PhotoAnna Patterson is at it again.  Anna's last Internet search engine was purchased by Google back in 2004 as an upgrade to their own system.

Of course, this time around Anna is not selling her latest technology.  Since leaving Google in 2006 Patterson developed a new search engine called CUIL (pronounced COOL) that she believes is a better, more comprehensive and efficient way to search the Internet.

Cuil's search index will span 120 billion websites which Patterson believes is 3 times the size of Google.  Google no longer publicly discloses it's search index size, but according to Google 1 trillion unique websites are scanned regularly.

Some of Cuil's unique characteristics include drilling into the the actual content of a page scanned, displaying results in a magazine type format, and promising not to retain users' search histories or surfing patterns.
