LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG: Happy Reunion for Family of Bo, a Brown & White Collie, in Suburban Arlington Heights IL!

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Buddy and Dean - Lake Elmo MN - July, 2008

WOOF!  Has it been HOT in Chicago these last few days - hottest days of the summer!  If I didn't pant, I'd sure be sweating right now!  (Here I am with my Human Dad, Dean, catching a ballgame with our Human Lady Friend Mary, up in Suburban St. Paul MN, over Fourth of July Week).

This story warmed the cockles of my little heart.  I'm sure it will warm YOUR cockles too, you dogs!

Last Tuesday, Bo, a large collie who got separated from his human family in the Chicago Suburb of Northfield IL on Memorial Day, 2003, found his way home!

On that frightening day, human owner Melissa Moeller and her family looked and looked around the area for Bo - but to no avail!  They drove around Northfield calling his name.  The called police, checked all the nearby animal rescue shelters.  The hung flyers on light polls for the rest of the year.  To no avail - and, NO BO!

The Moellers rescued the then-1 1/2 year old collie from a shelter that summer.  He was well-schooled - at "sit," "heel," and "stay."  You know, "Doggie 101!"

"He was just the most friendly, most agreeable dog that you could ever hope for. He was a great friend," said Brent Moeller.

This past Tuesday, Bo was found in a Rockford IL Animal Control Facility, roughly 75 miles from where he wandered off over five years ago.  He was a bit of a shaken dog - but otherwise OK, according to the veterinarian who checked on him.  Gary Longanecker, Director of Winnebago County Animal Services in Rockford, got a call last Monday that a large collie had wandered into the back yard of a local resident.  A check of the dogs implanted microchip revealed his true identity - Good Ole' Bo!

"This is the longest that an animal has been missing—particularly from that distance—that we've ever been able to reunite with a family," said Longanecker.  "And the dog still remembered his long-be-gone masters."

By the end of the day on Tuesday, Bo was re-united with his human family, who have since moved to Northwest Suburban Arlington Heights IL.

Happy days ahead for Bo, and the humans who love him!

Geez, folks, I think I'm going to cry!  Anyone have a spare box of Doggie Tissues?

Check out Vikki Ortiz's story in the July 15th edition of The Chicago Tribune.
