LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG: Chicago Now Has A Better Chance of Landing the 2016 Summer Olympics!

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Woof!  Am I pumped!   A decision made this week by the International Olympic Committee puts Chicago one step closer to getting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games!

This week, Chicago was named one of four finalists for the Olympics 8 summers from now.  The other finalists - Tokyo, Japan, Madrid, Spain, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

It's still not a slam dunk decision by any means, you dogs!  The final decision, to be made in October, 2009, will weigh heavily on the likelihood of required infrastructure improvements being completed, funding being raised, and, of course, the IOC being impressed.

Chicago and participating investors are ready to pledge as much as $3 Billion to bring the Olympics here, and IOC members praise the city's hotel availability, security, environmental efforts, and airport accessibility.  They are concerned, however, about our Public Transportation System - saved from the brink of financial disaster earlier this year through new tax increases - as well its ability to raise the necessary capital.

Competitor cities each have their own issues, both in the monetary and infrastructure areas.  The cities of Tokyo and Madrid are in areas where recent Olympics have been held recently (the Beijing Olympics this summer, and the Barcelona Olympics in 1992).

But, as a dog, I am confident we have a good chance of landing the Summer Olympics 2016, right here in Chicago.

I might even try out for them, you know!   I can do a mean 100-yard Doggie Dash.  Under six seconds - perhaps even faster when Thor, the new Pit Bull Puppy living on Marmora Avenue, chases me down the alley.

See today's article in The Chicago Sun-Times, written by Andrew Herrman and Fran Spielman, for more info.
