CHICAGO SPORTS BLOG - HERE COMES JUNE AND OUR CHICAGO BASEBALL TEAMS ARE ON TOP
Jeff Ardito - Dean's Team Listing Specialist! It's been a pervading theme for my blog and much of the talk around the town that both our Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are in first place.  Seemingly, for both teams a very possible 1st place finish come season's end since both teams have demonstrated the ability to stay on top.

The White Sox were not favored to win their division by most experts yet they find themselves with a two game lead over the Minnesota Twins and the favored Detroit Tigers a whopping seven games behind.  The White Sox pitching staff has been terrific with an overall 3.37 ERA which is fifth in all of baseball.  The White Sox have also been hitting the ball much better of late, especially left fielder, Carlos Quentin.  Quentin leads the team in hits, homeruns, RBI's and slugging percentage.  Should the pitching remain strong the rest of the regular season, the White Sox have to be the favored team to win the division because I believe that their offense will continue to get better.

The Cubs are leading the Majors in hitting while their pitching has been steady at best.  The Cubs lead the Majors in four offensive categories: team batting average, team on-base percentage, RBI's and hits.  The Cubs can score runs with the best of the league and it's proven helpful as the Cubs pitching has been solid but not great especially when looking at their starting staff.  With the exception of Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster, the rest of the starting staff has been spotty yet good enough to never allow the Cubs to lose more than two games in a row.

The crosstown classic is approaching and should prove to be very interesting as two of baseball's best teams will collide.  One thing for sure is that it will be really exciting for the fans.
