GO TO A BALLGAME - A HOCKEY GAME MAY BREAK OUT!

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS NHL HOCKEY MAY PLAY - OUTDOORS - AT WRIGLEY FIELD THIS JANUARY!

Across North America and in Europe, most professional hockey is played in an indoor ice arena, of course.  Only true fans know, however, that most pro hockey players got their start playing with friends on frozen ponds, outside, in the dead of winter.

To add a little spice to the game, which lost an entire season a few years ago due to a league-wide owners lockout, the National Hockey League last year debuted it's Outdoor Winter Classic.  The January 2008 game played in Buffalo NY, at Ralph Wilson Stadium, before a sellout crowd of over 71,000 fans!

Today, rumor has it the NHL is considering to hold Winter Classic II, this January, in Wrigley Field - home of the Chicago Cubs.  The Chicago Blackhawks opponent - the rival Detroit Red Wings - both hockey teams were part of the league's "Original Six" - teams that trace their roots back 8 decades ago!   (Hockey fans - can you name the other four teams?  Don't click on the above link until you answer!)

The NHL's official announcement could come next week, but Chicago Sports Network Comcast Sports Net already reports the game has been approved.

Old Yankee Stadium in New York, closing at the end of this baseball season for a new venue across the street, was originally reported to be hosting the annual NHL Winter Outdoor Game in 2009, as its last official event.  Complications in New York, however, has made the Chicago game more likely.

Bundle up, folks - and prepare to head to Wrigley - THIS WINTER!

Who knows, perhaps, by that time, Wrigley may be home to the World Champion 2008 Chicago Cubs!
