CHICAGO SPORTS BLOG - DID THE RECENT NBA LOTTERY SAVE JOHN PAXSON’S JOB?
You have to wonder if winning the NBA's draft lottery will do more than just bring a great player to the Chicago Bulls in next month's NBA draft. With just a 1.7 percent chance of winning the first pick, the Chicago Bulls were able to secure a pick that many experts say will make the Bulls significantly better immediately.
Of course, all of this doesn't erase the issue of the still-vacant head coaching position for the Bulls that General Manager, John Paxson, has yet to fill. This topped with a very disappointing season for the Bulls which found them losing 49 games and not making the playoffs despite pre-season expectations of making the playoffs and possibly contending for the Eastern Conference Title.
Paxson has been the general manager for five years now and the pressure is mounting from fans to produce a team that somehow can live up to the legacy left by Michael Jordan and company.
Winning the lottery should make Paxson's job of hiring a head coach much easier as the pick immediately figures to move the Bulls into contention for next season. With a new coach and a marquis number one pick the Bulls fortunes and that of John Paxson's future may be on the rise!
