LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - CHICAGO BEACHES ON LAKE MICHIGAN OPEN FRIDAY, MAY 23rd! Hey, You Dogs - Go Jump in The Lake!

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Buddy at Rest - Fourth of July, 2007

Got my new Speedo's (But My Real Name is Mr. Earl)!  Found a Waterproof Cub Hat!  Bought me a new tube of Sunblock, DPF (Dog Protection Factor) 50!

Let's head out to one of Chicago's Lake Michigan Beaches for a little Doggie-Dip!

Friday, May 23rd marks the annual official opening of 26 Miles of Chicago Lakefront for swimming.  Beaches will be open all summer between 9:00AM and 8:30PM, from now through September 1st.  The weather, and the lake water itself, is a little brisk right now - but you can bet it will warm up soon!

One big change for 2008 - No Smoking on any Chicago Public Beach!  Violators who light up within 15 feet of the beach could be fined up to $500!  That's good for three important reasons:

First of all, second-hand smoke is bad, for human and dog alike, whether your at the beach, at a restaurant, or doing your business at the dog run (I once knew a Large Rottweiler who smoked nearly two packs of Lucky Strike's each day - had a heck of a Smoker's Rrough).

Second, discarded cigarette butts really provide unsightly litter on the beaches, and a discarded cigarette not completely snuffed out could burn your delicate little paws.

Third, often times, in the hot sun, we dogs become a bit disoriented, and confuse cigarette butts for Marrow Bone Dog Treats.  NOT TASTY, AT ALL!

The air temperature is predicted to climb above 80 degrees by this Sunday, and stay that way through Monday, Memorial Day.  But be careful, you dogs - the Current Lake Michigan Water Temperature, just taken off the Oak Street Beach near Michigan Avenue in Chicago's Gold Coast Neighborhood, was a frigid 58 degrees!   Usually, the lake water doesn't reach the more-temperate mid-60's until the middle of July!

Go Hang Four (paws, that is) - but don't be frozen into a little dogsicle!

Enjoy the Memorial Day Holiday!

See Robert Mitchum's article in today's Chicago Tribune for more on Opening Day for Beaches in Chicago.
