THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - HAVE FUN ... FOR NOT A LOT OF CASH!
Everything seems to be going up in price these days except our take home pay! What's wrong with this picture? Well, I thought for this weekend, especially with gas prices reaching $4.00 a gallon, I would choose a handful of activities that wouldn't cause us to go broke and still be able to enjoy our time with family and/or friends. So, let's start off with some "free ice cream!" Now, mind you, it's only a complimentary scoop in honor of spring but "free" nonetheless. Where to go for this deal? Bobtail Ice Cream Company. The two locations that will be serving up these scoops on Saturday, May 17, from Noon to 3:00 p.m. are: 2951 North Broadway in the East Lakeview neighborhood, and 1114 Central Avenue in Wilmette.
Attention All Shoppers! A weekend pass for just $10 grants you entry into the Treasure Hunt Sample Sale which is being held at the Merchandise Mart in the River North neighborhood this Saturday (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Get discounts of up to 75%. Click here for more details.
Have something a little different in mind? Why not drop in at GlobalFest in the Lincoln Square neighborhood and celebrate this neighborhood's diversity with a cultural tribute to many other countries. This indoor fest will have an unlimited array of international food, local school musical performances from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and much more. Click here for more information.
If you want to take it outdoors this weekend, here are some suggestions:
Great Chicago Places & Spaces held at various locations throughout Chicago on Saturday (8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.). This event is also "free," however, there is a $3 service fee for advance registration. Please note that advanced registration is closed for some of the tours already, which goes to show you how popular this event is! Click here for tour descriptions, locations and advance registration.
13th Annual Chicago Mayfest between Ashland (3100 N) and Barry Avenues. This Lakeview neighborhood staple includes live music, food, beer, vendors, a Sunday pet parade, which kicks off at Noon with registration beginning at 11:00 a.m., and much more. Click here for details.
I hope some of these choices will help keep a few bucks in your pocket. If not, I say if you're going to go broke, who better to spend it on than yourself and your family! In fact, I'll be taking my mother, as part of her Mother's Day gift, to the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce's Bingo Extravaganza this Saturday and Sunday. For more information click here or call 773-736-6697. Not only will I be going broke, but wait, I just might win the jackpot!!!
