LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG: More and More Humans Ditch Land Lines - in Favor of Cell Phones!
THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!
Sorry - you caught me counting out my Life Savings. My tank is low, and I have to head out to buy some gas!
In the car. At the park. While walking against heavy traffic in Downtown Chicago, or driving down Western Avenue at 40 miles an hour. Even in washroom
Most people around here are always talking on their cell phones!
Research figures released this week showed usage of cell phones continues to rise, while land line usage continues to nose dive. During the last half of 2007, some 16 percent of survey respondents had only a cell phone - no land line at home. An additional 13 percent did have a land line, but handled nearly all of their calls on their cellular.
Back in 2004, only 5% of you humans had only cell phones! Last year, the number of households sans-land lines increased by 2%. Households who never or rarely use their land line phones increased 1% during the first half of 2007.
Many families shun land line telephones because they want to avoid annoying telemarketer calls. Others have a land line, but use it exclusively for a computer dial-up or home fax line.
Providers of emergency services, such as police and fire fighting personnel, are concerned about the difficulty of precisely locating distressed callers using a cell phone. The survey, actually commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also uncovered the following statistics -
Those less affluent are more likely to live in a cell-phone-only household.
Only-cell users are predominantly living with roommates not related to them. More Black and Hispanic households, by percentage, are cell-phone-only.
Among those under the age of 30, roughly one-third have only cell phones.
Most households have both land lines and cell phones, of course. But, of those households, those who say they rarely use the land line phones tend to be better educated, with higher levels of income.
The CDC Survey was conducted using in-person interviews between July and December, 2007.
Woof! I don't know about you, but when something is bothering me, the last thing I do is look for a cell phone. I just bark - repeatedly!
Although, in an emergency, I do grab my cell, and use a special wireless headset manufactured especially for dogs. You know . . .
a "houndstooth!"
