KATHY'S HOME & GARDEN TIPS - SOME THINGS TO DO ON THESE FEW WARM DAYS (WHEN IT’S NOT RAINING)
LET'S TALK PLANTING AND FLOWERS!
Now is the best time for a great selection at garden centers. You have your pick of colors and varieties. Be sure to plan your pots before shopping, while considering light and height requirements. When hanging long and narrow window boxes, keep shorter growing flowers. In large pots that sit on the patio or deck, go with taller varieties. Colors are a completely personal choice. Personally, I will do mixed colors in some pots and monochrome in others.
Miracle Grow makes a great potting mix for outdoor containers. Make sure to keep all the pots moist throughout the summer. Right now you can get away with watering every other day, but when it's really hot every day watering is definitely needed.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the grass. It's been raining enough lately so we don't have to worry about watering, unless you are growing grass from seed. Newly seeded lawns or even small patches need to be kept moist until they germinate, which is usually two weeks. After the grass sprouts, give daily sprinkles until the grass is established. When it's long enough to mow, cut back to normal watering to encourage strong root growth.
