THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - FORGET THE FOOD, "MAY" I . . . .
Sue Moss - General Manager, Manager of Unbeatable Service for Dean's Team CHICAGO!Well, I hope you all enjoyed your Chicago Hot Dog.  I sure enjoyed every one I had!  I think I'll take a break from writing about food this weekend since I do have a bathing suit to fit into and definitely don't want to be confused with a "beached whale!"

Since May has sprung -- and finally I might add -- let's check out some fun activities here in Chicago as well as the surrounding suburbs.

The Cinco de Mayo Festival will kick-off today, Friday, May 2nd, from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., in Douglas Park (1401 S. Sacramento Dr.) in the Lawndale neighborhood, and continue Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Hispanic culture.  This year's event will feature food vendors, carnival rides and live music as well as the Cinco de Mayo Parade on Sunday at Noon, which will begin at the intersection of Damen and Cermak Road continuing west on Cermak to Marshall Boulevard.  Click here for more information on these and other Cinco de Mayo events taking place this weekend.

Let's not forget our four-legged friends this weekend either.

For the Rovers in the family, this Saturday (May 3rd) at 9:00 a.m. the 14th Annual Bark in the Park will be held at Montrose Harbor.  This event is hosted by and benefits The Anti-Cruelty Society, which kicks-off with a 5K walk and continues with many other activities for both canine and human alike.  Cost is $20-$30.  Click here for more details.

For the more finicky in the family, this Sunday (May 4th) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the Tree House Animal Foundation will host Stray Cat Strut.  This event is a 5-mile walk, which begins Be Kind To Animals Week as well as kicking-off a week-long feline Adopt-A-Thon.  Cost is $25-$30.  Click here for more details.

And finally, this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., there's the Beer Fest 2008:  Beer on the Pier at Navy Pier, Festival Hall A.  Need I say more?  Cost is $40-$50.  Click here for tickets and more information.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend, get outdoors, have fun and stay safe.  And, if you haven't gotten around to getting a Chicago Hot Dog, what are you waiting for?  Just don't let me catch you putting ketchup on it!

By the way, I will be writing about other Chicago food favorites in upcoming articles and would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
