KATHY'S HOME & GARDEN TIPS - START SPENDING THOSE REFUND CHECKS!

Kathleen Weaver Zech - Dean's Team Director of Buyers Agency ServicesSPEND THOSE REFUND CHECKS AND GET MORE OUT OF YOUR HOME WHEN YOU SELL!

Tax refund checks start coming out this week, and, of course, many of you will want to save or invest. But the purpose of giving out the rebates is to stimulate the economy so let's spend!

Look at what needs to be done around the house. Twelve hundred dollars will go a long way in sprucing up.  Try paint and wallpaper or perhaps a new living room carpet or window treatment. New appliances like a refrigerator or stove is another possibility.

With this current cash infusion why not add some more money and take on a larger project. New energy efficient windows are one of the best home improvements you can do. They are one of the most profitable once you are ready to sell. A homeowner can recoup up to 81 percent of the cost of low maintenance windows at resale. Let's not forget the substantial savings in energy costs.

Maybe outside needs some attention. A new paver patio or lawn furniture can be enjoyed all summer long. Try using some green practices by replacing that old gas mower with a new electric or push model.  Buy a new gas grill.  Not only will you be stimulating the economy but you'll also be preserving our environment for the next generation.

Look around, I'm sure you can find a way to put that tax rebate to work for you!!
