TECHNOLOGY TIPS - DIGITAL TV
DIGITAL TV AND ITS IMPACT
Sure it's getting lots of press right now, but wait until the holidays!
There are many questions surrounding this change-over and how it will impact those of us with televisions that may not be older than dirt but still don't want to purchase a new TV.
I've collected some information to help you make an informed decision and hopefully placate the "sky is falling" mentality that seems to be running rampant in the news.
The big switch is going to take place on February 17, 2009. Click here for the official counter.
You will need to analyze whether you even need to switch over your television. If you receive analog television (use rabbit ears), which means you do not subscribe to a cable, satellite or telephone provider, you will need to get a digital converter. The converter is an electronic device that will convert the new digital airwaves into analog form for your current television. You can also apply for up to two $40 coupons per household to help defray the cost of the converter box. Your other options are to purchase an upgraded television set or subscribe to cable, satellite or your telephone provider.
While the major stations are required by law to make this transition, some of the low power stations are not required to make the switch and will most likely remain on analog. Click here to read more.
So my friends, the sky is not falling, it's just taking on new shape.
