LET THE GAMES BEGIN
There doesn't appear to be much "doings & happenings" this weekend here in Chicago and its surrounding neighborhoods other than the usual of grabbing something to eat and going to the movies, unless of course, you're a "sports fan!" Isn't that a City Ordinance anyway - in order to live in Chicago one must be a "sports fan"?
Let's begin with you college basketball buffs, March Madness will continue this Saturday, April 5th. Several neighborhood bars will provide the NCAA tourney on multiple screens in their establishments, as well as offering specials on selected food items and drinks. Try one of these places out:
Kirkwood Bar & Grill, located in the Lakeview neighborhood at 2934 N. Sheffield.
Gaslight Bar & Grille, located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood at 2426 N. Racine.
Gin Mill, located in the Sheffield/DePaul neighborhood at 2462 N. Lincoln.
The Chicago Cubs opened their season this past Monday on March 31st, and true to form, lost 4 to 3 in 10 innings. Here we go again, it's going to be another long season. For those of you wondering if I was there, yes I was and for the entire game! I even grew 3 inches sitting in all that rain. Although, I must admit, it was a nice change of pace from freezing my you know what off! The Chicago Cubs will be hosting the Houston Astros this weekend, with game time on Saturday at 12:05 p.m., and Sunday at 1:20 p.m. Please go cheer them on, they need all the help they can get. Click here for ticket information.
As for you Southsiders, the Chicago White Sox will be hosting their home opener this coming Monday, April 7th, at 3:05 p.m. against the Minnesota Twins. Click here for ticket information.
However, if you're one who would rather be in action than watching others in action, you might want to check into one of these this weekend:
Quintessential Chicago Bicycle Tour. Cost ranges from $25-$30, which includes bikes and helmets, located at Bobby's Bike Hike Kiosk (465 N. McClurg Ct). Not only will you partake in a two-hour guided tour of some of the City's most popular sites but you'll also learn about the City's plans for the lakefront for the 2016 Olympics.
‘Sunglasses at Night' Bicycle Tour. Reservations are recommended for this three-hour guided tour, which includes viewing the firework display at Navy Pier on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Again, bikes and helmets are included located at Bobby's Bike Hike Kiosk. Cost is $35.
Whatever you choose to do this weekend, just remember to be kind to your "sports fan" (in some cases "fans" - all my best to you) in your family as they gear up for another season of baseball. By the way, I would love to hear from you "non-sports fans" on how you cope during baseball season with the constant change of mood swings displayed by your "sports fan". I really could use some advice here, please help!
Play Ball!!!
