DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR KIDS ARE? In Chicago, Effective Tonight, They Must be HOME, Earlier!

CITY OF CHICAGO CURFEW NOW 10 PM ON WEEKNIGHTS, 11 PM WEEKENDS, FOR THOSE AGE 17 AND YOUNGER!

When I was in high school - about a century or two ago, we used to hear the old call, right after the evening 10:00 news, right before Johnny Carson - "It's 10:30!  Do you know where your children are?"

Most of the time, I was home, finishing homework, or getting ready for bed.  If I were a kid today, however, I might have heard that memorable phrase BEFORE the 10 O'Clock News.

Effective tonight, Chicago's New Curfew Ordinance goes into effect.  The Chicago Police Department re-emphasized the curfew changes when they announced yesterday an overall increase in crime throughout the city of three percent since the start of 2008 - including a startling 14 percent increase in homicides.  The biggest increases have occured in the some of the city's poorer neighborhoods.

Youths violating curfew are seldom arrested unless they are causing trouble.  But police do have the right to arrest curfew violators, take them into the local police district, and call their parents to pick them up.  Pretty embarrassing, for many teens!

Police can also issue tickets to the parents of curfew violators,  Citywide, over 3,000 tickets for violation of the curfew have been issued so far this year.

Please see Angela Rozas' article in today's Chicago Tribune.
