THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO FROM SUE - I've Been Waiting Almost A Whole Year For This Weekend!!

Sue Moss - General Manager, Manager of Unbeatable Service for Dean's Team CHICAGO!

Easter weekend brings back many fond memories of my childhood, some of which still hold true today, like dressing up in a new spring dress and bonnet, coloring eggs, waking up Sunday morning to find that the Easter Bunny had left a basket full of goodies for me and each of my sisters, and of course, the traditional Easter egg hunt.  Mom would always count how many of the colored eggs she hid but every year there was always one egg we just could not find. Of course, we found it a few weeks later - phew!!

So, in keeping with tradition, I went on a little "hunt" of my own to see what the City, its neighborhoods and surrounding suburbs have to offer this Easter holiday weekend.  Here's what I found:

BUNNY ACTIVITIES - for the kiddies, both varieties, two- and four-legged:

Mr. Hippity Hop:  Join Mr. Hippity Hop at the Daley Bicentennial Plaza on Saturday, March 22nd from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Meet the big white Bunny for a chance to snap a photo with him, hunt for hidden eggs that are sure to include candy and other favorite prizes, have your face painted, and/or participate in the arts & crafts being offered.  Please note, however, that some activities may require pre-registration due to limited space.

Doggie Easter Egg Hunt:  This event is for kids 18 & over and will be held at Horner Park this Saturday, March 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Bring your four-legged kids and hop on over to the annual egg hunt just for dogs!  Activities will include a dog hunt for treat-filled eggs, an obstacle course and a spring bonnet parade - for the dogs!  There is a minimal cost of $5 per dog.  Please note that your furry kids must be kept on a leash and with their owner(s) at all times.

The Chicago Park District hosts these events along with many other Bunny activities in and around Chicago, so click here for more information.

BUFFET CRUISES - for the entire family, Sunday, March 23rd:

Mystic Blue Easter Cruise  Noon - 2:00 p.m.; $59.95; Children 3 to 11, half price; Includes a brunch buffet, treats for the kids, and a DJ for entertainment.

Odyssey Cruises Easter Brunch  Noon; $59.90; Children 3 to 11, $29.95; Reservations required.  Includes a buffet with a glass of champagne for the adults, a special menu and goodie bags for the kids, and an appearance by the Easter Bunny!

Spirit of Chicago Easter Cruise  12:30 p.m.; $49.90; Children 3 to 11, $24.95; Reservations required.  Includes a brunch buffet, a DJ for entertainment and of course, goodie bags and visits with the Easter Bunny for the kids.

TRADITIONAL EASTER BUFFETS (on land) - Sunday, March 23rd:

Besides the usual elegant buffets offered at some of Chicago's finest hotels, such as the Gold Coast Room at the Drake Hotel, Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, and the Four Seasons Hotel, you might want to try these Chicago neighborhood and suburban buffets for a change of pace:

Deleece, located in the Lakeview neighborhood at 4004 N. Southport; Open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Prices vary; Reservations required.

Café Selmarie, located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood at 4729 N. Lincoln; Open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Prices vary.

Bistro 110, located in the Gold Coast neighborhood at 110 E. Pearson; Open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; $24.95; Reservations recommended.

Sam Houston's Charhouse, located in Bartlett at 1175 W. Lake; $24.99; Open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Reservations recommended.

Tapas Valencia, located in Bloomingdale at 241 E. Lake; Open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; $29.95; Reservations recommended.

Karma, located in Mundelein at 510 E. Route 83; Open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; $24.95; Children 5 to 10, $12.95; Reservations recommended.

Heaven on Seven, located in Naperville at 224 S. Main; Open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Prices vary; Reservations recommended.

I will be spending Easter with my family for Mom's traditional, home-cooked Easter dinner complete with ham, potato salad, asparagus, and many other trimmings. Of course, any Easter dinner would not be complete without topping it off with Mom's famous Lamb cake and many homemade desserts.  No wonder I have such a hard time keeping my waist line in check!

Whatever you choose to do this weekend, I hope it creates some special memories for you.  By the way, since I don't get a chance to partake in Easter buffets, let me know if they're as good as Mom's homemade dinner.
