LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - Pets Are Worth Saving - A Good Idea, Worth Considering!
THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!
Tomorrow morning, folks - 8:00AM! That's the time Single-Game Tickets go on sale for the Chicago Cubs 2008 Season. Went to Wrigley Field today to get my numbered paw-band, so I can get a chance to be first in line for tomorrow's ticket lottery for single-game seats that remain. It's hard to see my paw-band here - my Cub hat covers it up!
Let's get a bit more serious, folks. I would like to address the plight of many of our homeless four-pawed brothers and sisters, puppies and those weird-looking kittens, and what happens to them when they are abandoned by their former human families.
Until about 11 years ago, the only fate for many was euthanasia. Indeed, even as recently as 2006, over 19,000 dogs and cats were put to death by animal shelters in Chicago, after being abandoned and left homeless. But one Chicago organization is working hard to change all that!
PAWS Chicago, founded in 1997, is a no-kill animal shelter, with an Adoption and Humane Center located at 1997 N. Clybourn Avenue in the city's Lincoln Park Neighborhood. They also sponsor the Lurie Family Spay/Neuter Clinic, on 26th Street in Chicago's Little Village Neighborhood. Since 2001, Lurie has sterilized over 37,000 of us lil' animals - reducing pet overcrowding throughout the city and many suburbs, and reducing the need for extensive killing of us innocent pets.
PAWS feels that killing animals is not acceptable, and has trained hundreds of Chicagoans over the years in responsible pet care. Staffed extensively by volunteers, its "Angels with Tails" Program brings adoptable dogs and cats to stores and shopping malls all over Chicago and the suburbs, and has found good homes for thousands of wayward pets throughout the years.
The PAWS Chicago NEW Adoption and Humane Center is just over a year old, and offers state-of-the art, cageless living for cats and dogs available for adoption. It is light, well-ventilated, and has an attached animal treatment facility to keep everyone well, prior to adoption. Visit the PAWS Chicago Web Center, view many fellow dogs and a bunch of kitties up for adoption TODAY - and, if you'd like, contribute financially to their very noble cause. They get no public money - all funds come from contributions, labor from volunteer workers.
Thanks, in part, to PAWS Chicago, euthanizing of unwanted animals has dropped nearly 54% since PAWS opened - and they are working hard for the trend to continue, with their goal to place every adoptable pet in a loving home.
Dean's Team Leader Dean and wife Sue are BIG FANS, and CONTRIBUTORS, to PAWS Chicago. Please, those of you with only TWO paws - won't you get involved, too?
