Stop Junk Mail - If you want to reduce unsolicited mail you can register with the Direct Marketing Association, which makes a list available to its members as well as businesses that request it. Written requests to be removed from mailing lists - which must include name, home address and signature - can be sent to Mail Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512. Or you can register online at www.dmaconsumers.org (this requires a $5 fee). This really does cut down on the amount of junk mail I receive and over the years you will save a tree or two!
Stop Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers - To opt out of all pre-approved credit card offers you can call 888-567-8688 to get your name off the lists maintained by the three major credit reporting agencies. Calling the number will take your name off the lists for two years. To opt out indefinitely you must request a form from the call center and mail it in. A great step to help reduce your chance of identity theft.
