How appropriate is it that the weekend after Super Bowl the 2008 Chicago Auto Show rolls into town!! I guess we don't want you fellas to be bored, or some of you gals for that matter - including me.
This year's auto show opens to the public on Friday, February 8th, and runs through Sunday, February 17th -- 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. through February 16th and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on February 17th.
Again, the largest auto show, in fact, the largest in the nation, will take place at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, and will showcase the usual domestic and imported cars, as well as trucks and SUVs along with concept and experimental vehicles. Word has it that they'll be displaying the German "Yes" sports car worth a mere $97,000 with turbo or $77,000 without turbo. I guess I'll have to just be content with sitting in it!
The price of admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and kids ages 7 & up. However, the auto show will be hosting "Special Days" on Tuesday, February 12th - Women's Day, all women get in for ½ off full admission; and Wednesday, February 13th, and Friday, February 15th - Food Drive, bring three cans of food for ½ off full admission.
Finally, if you're unable to, or not allowed to, partake in this year's auto show NBC5 will be airing a live one-hour special on Saturday, February 9th, at 6:00 p.m. So sit back, relax, take plenty of notes and place an order for your dream car!
Now, I know this next segment has nothing to do with cars but I promised the gals that I would help the fellas out with some Valentine's Day gift ideas especially if their significant other allows them to go to the auto show - without them.
So fellas, you might want to mention to your significant other that the Ninth Annual Chocolate Fest will be held this Saturday, February 9th, and Sunday, February 10th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Not only will they be giving out free samples from major candy makers but they will also feature lectures on the history and making of chocolate, not to mention exhibits, workshops, displays and much more. Oh, a $1 donation is suggested, so give your gals a couple of bucks too.
Most important of all fellas, don't forget your significant other on Valentine's Day, so may I suggest the following:
For that Chocolate Fix -
Coco Rouge located at 1940 W Division in the Wicker Park neighborhood.
Hershey's located at 822 N Michigan in the Loop.
Ghirardelli located at 830 N Michigan in the Loop.
Moonstruck Chocolate Café located at 320 N Michigan in the Loop.
Ethel's Chocolate Lounge located at 819 W Armitage in the Sheffield/DePaul neighborhood.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory located at 31 S Northwest Highway in Park Ridge.
Or, for Something a Little Different -
Swirlz Cupcakes located at 705 W Belden in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. This quaint specialty shop features made-from-scratch cupcakes.
Molly's Cupcakes located at 2536 N Clark in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. At this cute cupcake specialty shop you can choose your own cupcake, select your frosting and then personalize it at the sprinkle bar.
And, for the Grand Finale -
Rent a romantic movie, such as Chocolat, Pretty Woman, Ghost, When Harry Met Sally -- just to name a few -- then cuddle up on the couch with the box of chocolates and/or cupcakes you bought along with a bottle of champagne and enjoy the evening together. This way, you can break the news to your significant other about your purchase of the "Yes" sports car at the auto show without having to sleep on the couch!!!
Hey fellas, let me know if you had to sleep on the couch anyway - "sweet dreams".
