There are a few of us around old enough to remember the muscle cars of the early 1970's - the olden days, when speed was king, when engines really purred, and when you could fill up your WHOLE TANK for the price of one gallon of gasoline today.
For some of us crazy old men, this shot brings nearly as much excitement as a suggestive Playboy centerfold - it's the brand-new 2008 Dodge Challenger, introduced at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. The show runs now through February 17th, at Chicago's Massive McCormick Place Complex.
Look, look - guys - it even has the same paint scheme as the original 1970 version - but updated! And I mean updated! The manly machine features a new SRT8 engine - that goes 0–to-60 mph in about five seconds, zero to 100, and back to a dead stop, in less than 17 seconds, a fourteen-second quarter-mile, and a 60 to zero braking distance of just over 100 feet. Looking to buy one, gentlemen? It will be available in Dodge Dealers this spring, and will set you back about $38,000, including a hefty gas-guzzler tax!

In all, over 14 cars will be introduced at this year's Chicago Auto Show, including the new 2009 Acura RL, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Gallant, Hyundai Sonata and Elantra, Chevrolet HHR Flexfuel and Traverse Crossover - and several more. The Chicago Auto Show is the world's largest - well over 1,000 cars on display, in 1.3 Million Square Feet of exhibit space along the Chicago Lakefront. 2008 will be the 100th International Auto Show (the first show took place in 1901 - shows were missed during and after World Wars I and II), and over 1 Million car enthusiasts, gear heads, and just plain folks will be stopping by to see, feel, and get behind the wheel of their favorite cars (sorry, you won't be able to do that for the Challenger). If you'd like - do this for kicks: try to find the one car on the floor that they forgot to disconnect the horn on - you'll get quick attention!
