THAT ARCTIC BLAST JUST DOESN'T WANT TO LEAVE! I don't know about anyone else but I'm still thawing out from last weekend's arctic blast. Although it appears that this weekend will be a little more tolerable, we'll probably be thawing out from the arctic blast that blew in here mid-week!
So I began racking my brain and perusing several different web sites for something to do this weekend in some of the Chicago neighborhoods that will at least get us out of the house -- I'm starting to climb walls over here!
There were the usual, such as going to the movies, but that's something that most of us do anyway. I wanted something different, fun, a reasonable cost and can be enjoyed by the whole family or just a bunch of friends. You won't believe what I came up with. Do you want to know what it is? Okay, okay, I'll tell you. It's -
BOWLING!
How does that grab you? I know there are those of you who are saying to yourself right now, "bowling? Is she serious?" Yes, I am. Just think about it for a moment. You don't have to own a bowling ball or shoes, you can rent the shoes and there are plenty of balls available for all shapes and sizes. It's a reasonable cost, and can be enjoyed by everyone, even if you never bowled before. After all it's not a competition, you're out there to have some fun, good laughs, mingle with family and/or friends and spend the cold winter days or nights heating up the bowling lanes.
Try these out, although, there are, of course, many, many more bowling alleys to be found in the Chicagoland area -
Southport Lanes & Billiards located in the Lakeview neighborhood at 3325 N. Southport Avenue, which is famous for its live pin-setters. Remember those! There's not too many of them around anymore but a few still do exist. And if by chance you have to wait for a lane to open, you can visit their billiards room. Click here for more details.
Lincoln Square Lanes located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood at 4874 N. Lincoln Avenue, sits atop a hardware store. Yes, a second-floor bowling alley! It also sports a balcony for viewing games in progress. Click here for details.
Habetler Bowl located in the Jefferson Park neighborhood at 5250 N. Northwest Highway, has been family-owned since its opening in 1957. Wow, that's 50 years ago! This bowling alley has 32 lanes for league and non-league bowlers alike. The Rock-and-Glow Night originated here for the 13- to 18-year-olds but quickly caught on in other age groups as well - seniors included! Click here for more information.
If I haven't convinced you by now to go bowling this weekend, there's always the 40th Annual RV & Camping Show at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont this weekend. Why not purchase a new RV for the Chicago Bears pre-game tailgating parties this year. You'll be the hit of the parking lot especially on those cold, frigid days!! Click here for dates, times and much more.
Well, I've got to go and dig my bowling ball and shoes from the back of the closet so I can polish them. Lookout, I'm a serious bowler. Are you? If so, interested in joining a league?
