THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO FROM SUE – BE SURE TO BUNDLE UP!!
ARCTIC BLAST ARRIVES - BRRRR!!
It's the third weekend of January 2008 already, and true to form here in Chicago, it's guaranteed to be an "arctic" weekend with temperatures plunging to the single digits and wind chills below zero.
Now, I know there are those of you who will be out and about no matter how cold it is - "yours truly" NOT included! However, out of curiosity I decided to do some research on outdoor, arctic blast activities, which kept bringing me back to "warmth". So, in a nutshell, STAY INDOORS!
Below are some suggestions for staying indoors but not at home so one only has to brave the elements to get from Point A to Point B to Point C and back to Point A.
78th Annual Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoors Show; McCormick Place - North (January 16th through January 20th). Buy 3 tickets Get 1 free - on-line purchase only! Click here for details.
Chicago Adler Planetarium; why not take a journey into a black hole. Stop by Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity, narrated by Liam Neeson. Click here for more information.
Chicago Museum of Science and Industry; there is always something new to learn and experience at this museum no matter how young or old you are. Check it out here.
Finally, to warm the cockles of your heart, try one of these 5 fave restaurants for a warm bowl of soup:
Soupbox (2943 N. Broadway) -- Potato Leek plus Broccoli and Cheddar
The Cape Cod Room (140 E. Walton) - New England Clam Chowder
Red Rooster Wine Bar & Café (2100 N. Halsted) - French Onion
Penny's Noodle Shop (950 W Diversey Pkwy) - Spicy, Tangy Tom Yum
Ashkenaz Deli (12 E. Cedar) - Matzo Ball
For those of us who prefer to hibernate this weekend in our warm, cozy home, why not try something a little different, especially if you have children. Set-up a tent or tents in your living room and have an indoor camping experience. Turn off all the lights, use flashlights and tell spooky stories. Let the kids sleep in the tents instead of their rooms, or stay up until the wee hours of the morning. Just have fun and stay warm!
If anyone out there has other suggestions for "indoor" activities during an arctic blast, I would love to hear from you so I may share your idea with others. As for the adventurous, be safe out there - dress in layers and cover every inch of your body.
