VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR IL PRIMARY - TUESDAY, JANUARY 8TH!

EARLIEST-EVER ILLINOIS PRIMARY ADVANCES VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE!

Here in Chicago, and across Illinois, the deadline to register for the Illinois Primary is THIS COMING TUESDAY, JANUARY 8TH.  This early registration deadline comes with the advancement of the date of the Primary Elections to Tuesday, February 5th.

Langdon Neal, Charmain of the Cook County Board of Election Commissioners, says that registration is down over 9.25% over the 2007 Municipal Elections, as the registered voters list has been scrubbed to remove those voters who may have moved since the last election.  Click here to check your current voter registration status, or call 312-269-7900.

Voters have several options for registering for the Illinois Primary Elections -

1.  You can register in person at any Illinois Secretary of State Drivers License Facility across Illinois.

2.  You can register in person at the Chicago Board of Elections Commissioners Downtown Chicago Offices, at 69 W. Washington Street, Suite 600.  The office will be open 9:00AM - 5:00PM on Monday, January 7th, and until midnight on Tuesday, January 8th.

3.  You can download the registration form from the commissioner's website - ChicagoElections.com - or pick up a mail in form from any Chicago Public Library.  However, the form must be RECEIVED by Tuesday, the 8th - so the U.S. Mail might not be a reliable option.

Voters must have turned 18 years old by the February 5th Primary, and show two pieces of ID - one must have a current home address.

After Tuesday, voters may take advantage of a registration grace period through January 22nd.  However, these late registrants will have to register in person at the Board of Elections Office Downtown, and must cast an early ballot AT THE SAME TIME THEY REGISTER.  They cannot vote at their local polling place on Election Day!

Experts predict a very strong turnout for the 2008 Illinois Primary, as two candidates with local ties - Democratic Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama - are running for President.  Of course, this historic election also features a prominent African American and woman candidate competing for votes as well.

Please review this posted PDF document, from the Board of Election Commissioners, for more information.

Don't forget to register to vote in 2008!
