CATHY'S TECH TIPS - COMPATIBILITY FOR MICROSOFT

Cathy Mallers PhotoCOMMUNICATION IS THE NAME OF THE GAME!

Last week I was at the NAR Convention trying to learn some neat and nifty tricks to help keep our technology and communications current.

I had someone back home in Chicago helping me out with minor project items and a small conundrum came up while I was away.  How many times have you received a file with the extension .docx?

Those of you who have received it and don't have Microsoft Office 2007, know exactly what I'm talking about.  The challenge with any of these files is that, technically, while the original person saving the file "down" to a more compatible format is looking out for you, the .docx extension still remains.  So what do you do?

Once I got past my love/hate relationship with Bill Gates, I went directly to the MSN Download Center.  For my situation the quickest fix was to send the link to the other party and have them install the compatibility fix.  Click here to get this important update if you are not familiar with it or have not already installed it.

Most users may have already stumbled upon this important fix, but if you haven't you'll be so grateful you did now.  And for those of you who do not wish to install anything else on your computer, you can always go to Zamzar where you upload the file, it gets converted and receive an email with the attachment.  Best part is it is a free service and usually only takes about 15 minutes for the conversion to reach your email in-box.

HAVE YOU GOT AN ON-LINE ITEM YOU NEED FOR FREE?  Let me know so I can check it out.
