JEFF'S CHICAGO SPORTS BLOG - THE BOSTON RED SOX MAKE A STATEMENT!

THOUGHTS ON THE 2007 WORLD SERIES, AND THE BOSTON RED SOX!

Jeff Ardito - Dean's Team Listing Specialist!

Red Sox fans may be about to cherish yet another world championship as their beloved BoSox are just too much for the Colorado Rockies.

In convincing fashion the Sox pounded the Rockies pitchers for 10 runs and answered the call virtually every time they needed a good inning in their victory over the Rockies last night at Coors Field.  The victory put the Boston Red Sox in complete control with a 3-0 game lead in the best of seven series.

The Sox lineup has been very effective banging out 38 hits in the three wins and scoring 25 runs while their pitching has only allowed 7 runs in the same stretch.  What's interesting is that the Sox are doing this without the long ball.  They have just one home run in the series yet they have pounded out 16 doubles and 21 singles.

Red Sox slugger, Kevin Youkilis couldn't be in the starting lineup due to the game being held in Colorado where the designated hitter rule is not in effect, and still the Sox had no problem scoring runs.  In the meantime, the Red Sox pitching staff continues to be very good.  They have only allowed seven runs in the series and have kept a good hitting lineup rather quiet.  They have allowed 22 hits and just seven walks while striking out 29 hitters.

I expect the Rockies to come out and put up a big fight in game four against Red Sox starting pitcher, Jon Lester but they are going to need a miracle to win four straight.  The Red Sox are baseball's elite team and with a championship here they will have won two in just four years.  Further, they have a nice blend of veteran and young players that they should be able to contend in the short term for more titles.

Your thoughts on the Boston Red Sox?  Let me know!
