MARC'S TECHNOLOGY BLOG – KIDS KNOW THE DARNDEST THINGS
I LOVE HANGING OUT WITH TEENAGERS.
I got taught a very cool little Firefox trick this weekend.
My workday starts with the same five websites every morning. For the past five years I have had the same five shortcuts to five different websites dropped on my desktop and I open each one of them, one at a time, every day before I leave the house. Apparently, to the average 15 year old, this is very amusing. It will earn you ridicule if you get caught doing it. It's very embarrassing. The in thing to do is to train Firefox to do the work for you. It's a simple tweak and it's pretty dang handy.
Firefox can open multiple websites with a single double-click. You can check the news, the weather, the traffic, your fantasy team, and digg, without the need to open each site one at a time.
Do this:
Drop a Firefox shortcut onto your desktop.
Right-click on it and left click on Properties.
In the "URL:" field, type the URL's to your favorite websites separated by a ‘|'. For example www.yahoo.com|www.myspace.com
Click Apply
Click OK
Right click the icon again and rename the icon.
Now, when you double click that icon, both of those websites will open in multiple tabs. You can enter in as many websites as you want and clean up some of those extra icons on your desktop!
Kids these days have all the good tips.
