SUE'S "WHAT'S HAPPENING!" IN CHICAGO BLOG - IT'S ICE CREAM WEATHER!

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST ICE CREAM IN CHICAGO THIS WEEKEND!

Sue Moss - General Manager, Manager of Unbeatable Service for Dean's Team CHICAGO!It's going to be another scorcher out there this weekend!  I'm thinking it's time to cool off and what better way than to eat ice cream.  Yes, I'm suggesting eating ice cream, or for those of you who count calories and fat grams, frozen yogurts are just as satisfying.

One of the many advantages of living in Chicago is the wide selection of ice cream shops throughout the City as well as the neighboring suburbs.  Of course, there are the usual franchised shops such as Baskin-Robbins, Cold Stone Creamery, Dairy Queen, Oberweis Ice Cream & Dairy, just to name a few; however, here are some alternatives, for a change of pace.

City of Chicago Locations:

Bobtail Soda Fountain, 2951 N. Broadway Street

Gerties Ice Cream, 7600 S. Pulaski Road

Ghirardelli Chocolate Inc., 118 E. Pearson Street

Margies Candies, 1960 N. Western Avenue

Scooter's Frozen Custard, 1658 W. Belmont Avenue

Treats Frozen Desserts, 3319 N. Broadway Street

Suburban Locations:

Bobtail Ice Cream Company, Wilmette

Capannari Ice Cream, Mount Prospect

Gelato Grotto, Palos Heights

Millie's, Oak Lawn

The Brown Cow, Forest Park

Uncle Harry's, Addison

I hope you'll be able to visit at least some of these places before the end of summer, if not all of them, which is what I plan on doing with the rest of my summer -- especially if it continues to be above 90 degrees!

If hot, humid is your kind of weather, stop by the Bud Billiken Day Parade which kicks off at 10:00 a.m. from Martin Luther King Drive & 39th Street this Saturday.  This parade is named after a mythical guardian of small children.  I've been told that a fun time is always had by all!!

And, don't forget, the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival in Grant Park's Butler Field is winding down their season with these last three movies:  August 14th at 8:24 p.m., Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid; August 21st at 8:13 p.m., Sweet Smell of Success; and August 28th at 8:01 p.m., The Sound of Music.  What a great way to spend your Tuesday evenings - kicking back under the stars watching a classic movie - it's "Free".

Ice Cream and Popcorn - my two favorite food groups!  What are YOURS?
