MARC'S TECHNOLOGY BLOG - MMMMM . . . GADGETS, THOSE GADGETS!

SOME COOL TECH PRODUCTS, FROM A GUY THAT OWNS NEARLY ALL OF THEM!

Marc Milbauer - Dean's Team Newest Member - 06-18-2007 Love those gadgets!  The only thing I don't like about gadgets is that I don't have enough pockets to keep them with me at all times. Last week at a party I won a $25 gift certificate for Lettuce Entertain You for having the most random piece of technology in my pocket. It was between me, with my flash drive, and a woman with a digital thermometer. Which, in retrospect, seems pretty random...I must have got extra points for my drive being attached to my keychain. Yes...I'm THAT guy.

Anyway, I love gadgets, and there are some new gadgets out lately that I am coveting.

The Merkai Mini is a Wi-Fi router that picks up and boosts wireless signals. If you had enough of these things, you could potentially create a "mesh" network which could cover an entire neighborhood from a single cable hub. Frankly, I would settle for a solid wireless signal in my bedroom. The mini sends a signal 750 feet and only costs $50.

This one I wish my grandfather would have had!   I've long wanted to go to all the places he took pictures in his extensive travels around the world. With the GiSTEQ PhotoTrackr   I could put my feet in the very spot where he stood while taking his photos. The PhotoTrackr is a GPS device that synchronizes with your digital camera clock and records the precise latitude and longitude where the photo was taken.  I love it.

And in the "Duh!" category we have the Philips Xenium, coming Winter, 2007.  It is a cell phone with a battery charge lasts, believe it or not, a FULL MONTH!! And just in case that isn't long enough for you, it has a replaceable AAA battery backup!   Why wasn't this thought of from the very beginning (at least the AAA back-up part)!

Speaking of cell phone batteries I want to go on record right now with an idea of my own. You know those wrist watches that have the self charging batteries? Just wearing and moving the watch powers and charges the battery. How about the same thing for cell phone batteries? Is there a good reason why this hasn't been done? Just remember it was all my idea.

C'MON - FESS UP!  What little tech goodies have YOU purchased recently?  Let me know!
