Sauganash Overview
Sauganash, named after the circa 1831 Sauganash Hotel, is located in the far northwest side of the City of Chicago and about 12 miles from downtown Chicago and The Loop. With its beautiful mature trees, and a wide variety of housing styles, many city-dwellers choose to live in this community over living the suburbs.
Located just south of Peterson near Kostner Avenues, Sauganash Park provides its residents an excellent combination of arts and sports. With a field house which includes a 150-seat auditorium, lessons are offered in everything from piano and guitar lessons to hip-hop and theater. The field house also provides other indoor sports such as basketball and floor-hockey.
Sauganash Homes for Sale
The Sauganash neighborhood offers a broad range of housing styles and vintages. Single-story ranch homes from the 1950s are plentiful, but you can also find a number of Cape Cods, Georgians, colonials, bungalows and older frame homes. An unusual feature of these homes is that many are situated on lots which are noticeably larger than those you might find closer to Chicago.
Commuters can access downtown Chicago and The Loop via the Edens Expressway. The Morning and afternoon traffic makes for a 45-50 minute trip downtown, but the trip takes about 30 minutes during non-rush hour periods. Public transportation offered by the METRA train service to downtown Chicago and the northwest suburbs is available at the nearby Forest Glen and Edgebrook stations.
