This north side Chicago neighborhood is more commonly known for its historic Saint Benedicts Church. North Center is conveniently located just five and a half miles from the Loop. Famous for its small shops, bakeries, restaurants and live music, this area is, geographically, the “Heart of Chicago’s North Side".
Conveniently located on the Chicago River this area was originally settled in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries mainly by German immigrants for industrial and manufacturing use. Today the area is very diverse ethnically, as evidenced by the variety of small businesses that keep the community alive. The area’s housing stock includes attractive brick homes that were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
North Center Homes for Sale
Within North Center you can find the communities of Roscoe Village and Saint Ben’s. Roscoe Village is known for its small town feel; many people who live in Roscoe Village have their roots imbedded there since the 1800’s. Although Roscoe Village has many older homes, there are a growing number of newer homes, townhomes and lofts that can be seen.
The Saint Ben’s area is named after Saint Benedict's Parish, a very large, high-steeple Catholic Church on the corner of Irving Park Road and Hoyne Avenue.
North Center has tree-lined streets, large parks, great schools, and is a great family community only a short distance from the busy Loop. The “L” goes downtown and has stops at Addison, Irving Park and Montrose, and CTA buses traverse Irving Park Road, Addison Street, and Lincoln, Damen and Western Avenues.
