Chicago Neighborhoods - Bucktown

Bucktown Overview

Looking at Bucktown homes for sale is a great idea if you’re looking for an eclectic Chicago neighborhood.  The community of Bucktown, which sits on the northwest side of Chicago, boasts of more artists than any neighborhood in the city.  Just about 5 miles due northwest of downtown, this eclectic neighborhood also offers a higher-than-average ratio of hip clubs, cafés, unique restaurants, as well as some unusual places to shop.

It's been said that Bucktown back in the early 1800s, Bucktown got its name as a result of its primarily Polish population's penchant for raising goats in their back yards, the male goat is called a buck.  The goats are long gone, but there are remnants of a historic and quaint Bucktown evident throughout the community n the hundred-year-old buildings and cobblestone alleys which are peppered throughout the entire neighborhood.

For some interesting community activities, check out the Bucktown Arts Fest which the community hosts each year in August.  This event draws over 30,000 visitors each year. In September Around the Coyote Festival is held in celebration of the neighborhood's creative spirit.

Bucktown Homes for Sale

Part of the historic Bucktown remains in many of the original workers cottages, brick-and-frames, which remain throughout the neighborhoods.  However, most have been renovated to appeal to a younger and  more professional homeowner.  Many of the neighborhoods have newer condo buildings, too.  And along with these properties, renovated loft and factory space have also sprung up here and there in the neighborhoods.

It's a short 20 minute commuter trip to Downtown Chicago and The Loop via the Blue Line L.  There are also two L stations to serve the Bucktown area – the Damen Station, at Damen and North Avenues, and the Western Station at Western and Armitage Avenues.
